Document workflow used to live in three places at once: a SharePoint folder for the working files, an e-signing tool for the executed copies, and a long email thread reconstructing what changed between them. The audit trail was the email thread. Documents Platform was built to end that arrangement — to give legal, finance, and corporate teams a single place where the version, the signature, and the disclosure event share one chain of custody. The story of why that matters takes about five minutes to read.

I Version & Review Module One

A version history that means something.

Every change tracked, every reviewer logged, every comment surfaced. Compare any two versions in one click. Restore in three. The kind of audit trail that doesn't fall apart under cross-examination — because the parties cross-examining you are the ones we built it for.

  • Track-changes that survive reviewer-to-reviewer handoff
  • Inline comparison between any two versions, by line
  • Approval workflows routed by matter type, value, and risk
  • Restore points that don't lose comment history
"We replaced four point tools with one. The audit team noticed first." — Henrietta Vale, Wickham & Vale
II E-Signature Module Two

Signatures with provenance.

eIDAS-conformant. UETA and ESIGN compliant. Every signature is bound to identity verification, IP address, geolocation, and a tamper-evident certificate of completion. Long-term validation is the default — every signed document is wrapped in a timestamp that re-anchors itself before the underlying certificates expire, indefinitely.

  • Standard, advanced, and qualified electronic signatures
  • National eID and hardware-token signing where supported
  • LTV-PAdES and LTA-CAdES output formats
  • Annual re-timestamping built in, with full audit log
III Disclosure Module Three

Controlled disclosure, treated as evidence.

Most platforms treat external sharing as an afterthought. We treat the disclosure event as one of the most evidence-bearing things a document does in its lifetime. Granular access policies, dynamic watermarks, time-bound expiry, and per-page tracking of what was actually opened — and by whom.

  • View-only sharing without sending the document out
  • Per-page open events logged with IP and identity
  • Watermark dynamic to recipient, time, and matter
  • Revoke from any device, instantly
IV Records Module Four

Retention as a first-class verb.

Schedules per matter type. Legal-hold suspension that propagates automatically. Defensible deletion when a hold lifts and retention completes — with a full record of the decision. Records officers have a real desk in the product, not a buried admin panel.

  • Retention schedules per matter type, jurisdiction, and risk
  • Legal-hold suspension that survives matter restructuring
  • Defensible deletion with a signed certificate of action
  • Records-officer dashboard with everything they actually need
"They built the system we wished we'd had. The audit team used to ask for binders. Now they ask for a date range."

Colophon

A small London team, building a careful product since 2020.

Documents Platform was founded by Anneke Visser and Diego Aranha — formerly of iManage and DocuSign respectively — after a long financial-services audit they both worked on couldn't be reconstructed without a forensic accountant. They thought there was a better way to keep records. About thirty people now work on the platform, mostly out of Crown Place in London, with team members in Edinburgh, Lisbon, and Zürich.

The platform is SOC 2 Type II audited, ISO 27001 certified, and registered with the ICO as a UK GDPR processor. Customer data resides in London, Frankfurt, Virginia, or Toronto, with customer-managed encryption keys available on the Enterprise tier.
